Ok guys, and gals (Hi Barb) I stopped off at Five Mile Dam to check out the fishing conditions and water flow. After all, this time last year the river looked like this.

Now, with all the rain we had, the flow may be perfect for doing some moving water yaking. This may not be possible again for while. The normal water flow for that section of river, below the dam, never has been good for floating. Now, it looks like it might be a fun trip. A good chance to get into some moving water and practice some maneuvers, or just have some fun. The water is nice and cool, and very clear. I parked in the lot down stream of the dam and walked down to the river. From what I could see, it looks like you could float down river, as far as you like. If you had two vehicles, you could park one under the I35 bridge, and shuttle back to the dam area. I have never been farther east than the train track, so I don’t know what the river looks like past that.
I’m just saying, it might be worth a trip down there to do a little exploring, and find out.
Pic taken today.

It is exactly 25 miles from I35 and Riverside drive, to the parking lot. Without more rain like we had earlier this year, the opportunity will dry up.
If nothing else, the river above the dam is full, and it is perfect for a day trip up river in still water conditions.
Here is a map of the area I am referring to.

If you need anymore info, or better maps, just let me know.
I will be out of town, but will have email.

I love the Blanco, this looks like the part where the girl died a few days ago. Me and FishingTime(e) run the Blanco more upstream near Wimberly. We went down it at 1,200cfm and it was very nice. We kept wondering why everyone we saw had helmets and we only had cold ones. We found out why downstream. We know of some nice spots to put in and out near Wimberly if anyone is ever interested. We have 3,6,& 9 mile options.
