Sad Mews Folks! Be careful out there.
Missing Kayaker’s Body Found Along the Blanco River in Hays County
Submitted by deric on Mon, 01/25/2010 - 10:16
Out of Hays County: The San Marcos Daily Record reports that after 2 days of searching, the body of a missing kayaker was discovered Saturday along the banks of the slightly swollen Blanco River. 34-year old Florida native Ian Townsend had been staying in Austin when he went kayaking last Thursday with a friend, and turned up missing. The two had stopped at a spot about 4 miles upstream of County Road 1492, west of Wimberley, when the man went missing. After 2 days of searching, the man’s body was spotted by a DPS helicopter about a mile downstream from where he was last seen. The river that far out in the county was still feeling the effects of recent heavy rains, and although the cause of Townsend’s death is still under investigation, he is believed to be the first drowning victim in Hays County in 2010.

| I AM IAN'S GIRLFRIEND HERE IN FLORIDA. HE WENT TO TEXAS TO FIND WORK FOR A YEAR OR 6 MONTHS AND SAVE MONEY BECAUSE THERE IS NO WORK IN FLORIDA AND WE WERE STRUGLING. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO COME BACK TO ME! HE DID NOT HAVE SAFETY EQUIPMENT BECAUSE THE FRIEND HE WAS WITH LEFT HIM ON THE BANK ALONE AND TOOK HIS KAYAK, LEAVING IAN THERE ALL ALONE. I DONT BELIEVE THE STORY OF THE FRIEND BECAUSE IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE. IAN WAS IN THE NAVY, HE WAS FISHERMAN BY TRADE AND STRONG SWIMMER. I THINK SOMETHING AWFUL WAS DONE TO HIM! LEFT HIM ALONE ON THE BANK AND TOOK IAN'S KAYAK!!! WHY AND WHO WOULD DO THAT????!!! |

Wow. Accusation of foulplay, this is serious business. I hope you have spoken to authorities here locally. If there is something you need I don't doubt many here would be willing to help with such a tragic situation, but I'm not sure what we can do. Just a bunch of kayak fishermen. I haven't seen a game warden or officer announce himself on this forum before.
I am very sorry for your loss. |
